What is Love, Brown Girl?

Screen Shot 2018-01-19 at 10.16.55 AM.png

Love, Brown Girl is a site that was created to discuss and promote topics that are relevant to all women, especially women of color. Here you can find blog posts, products and current trends that I love, and a section to highlight my family and friends that are doing things in our area.

But just so we are on the same page, this site's primary focus is to allow women of color (especially black women) to have a place to start conversations, review topics that are interesting, and beauty trends that apply to us. Tina Knowles explained it best, "Its such beauty in black people and it really saddens me when we're not allowed to express that pride in being black, and that if you do, then it's considered anti-white. No! You just pro-black. And that's okay, the two don't go together".

But What If It Works?

I read somewhere during the initial idea of creating my blog, that each day there are over 50,000 blogs started. Wow – if that is not discouraging then I have no idea what could be. At any given point, there are thousands of people creating their first blog (like me) or making an update to their blogs that already exist. So why would anyone want to read mine? Why even start it and spend money on a site that people may not view? Why even spend time to write posts or create my ideal site? I personally made the decision because I have always used me being an introvert as an excuse and decided that life is too short to not do what you want.

I decided that today, on my Grandmother’s birthday (RIP Granny), that I will take the next step into my dreams and I encourage you to do the same.

So what is Love Brown Girl? In short, it is a blog that is used to discuss things from OUR point of view. Things that we find interesting, things we like to see / hear, things that make us happy, however; I do not claim to be an expert so all topics are from my perspective.

My site will continue to involve as I want to talk about things that are current and highlight people in my life that are making moves. Thanks for being a part of my journey and I hope that we continue to evolve together.

I want to highlight products and brands that I love with the hopes of helping other Women. This is all my personal opinion and not a paid endorsement. I just want to share items that have made my skincare and haircare routines easier.

Having natural hair it is critical that I have shampoo that cleanse my scalp while maintaining its moisture. I have tried several products and this brand is one that I constantly turn to. I am always trying new hair products and will continue to post ones that I love for you to try as well.

I live by this product because of its many uses - literally there are thousands. I use it to moisture my hair (especially when I am protective styling), moisturize my skin, to remove make-up, and help grow my natural lashed and eyebrows. I am sure there are other things that I am missing but those are my top 5.   I chose this brand because it is organic, doesn't clump as much, and the smell is minimal. I have purchased other brands before like Wal-Mart's (when I can't get to Trader Joe's) and they are work but I just like that I can get all the benefits in one product for a cheap price.

This is one of the face wash products that I use. This 3pc set is great to help combat breakouts. I will wash my face at least 5 times a week using step 1 & 2 (I personally do not care for the moisturizer). I have noticed that my trouble area is around my chin because I have small pimples and I use this to try and prevent them from happening.   I heard about this system on YouTube and you can find several reviews and made the decision to purchase since it was only $12. Here is a link where you can find the product and its details: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Clean-Clear-Daily-Skincare-Essentials-3-Items/40713160

Honestly, there probably isn't a product in their line that I don't like but this is one that I have used multiple times. It leaves my hair soft and well moisturized. Also, the smell is great too.

As I have gotten older, I have noticed that I am having dark spots that appear after a breakout. Luckily, I have been able to find a product that is effective and affordable. I have put this in my nightly routine and I am already seeing a difference after a few weeks. I was able to find this product at Wal-Mart for only $5

I do not know how I have not already been using this product but after my eyebrow tech explained to me that this product is amazing to help grow your lashes naturally, I immediately went to Amazon to purchase it. I have now added this to my face moisturizer (only using a few nights a week) and occasionally on my body. Unlike coconut oil, Jamaican Black Castor Oil is very thick and will clog pores if used too frequently. Using it on my face and body once a week works for me, but you should test the cadence on your skin and determine what works best for you. I was able to order this from Amazon for under $10.

Things That I love That You Will Too!

Each day a new trend is out but I want to highlight the ones that I love and where you can find them at an affordable price.

Get into these boots!

First of all, what is there not to love about this look. From the colors, to the oversized sweater, to the thigh high boots.

This entire look is it honey! But the item that I am highlighting is the thigh high boots. I may be a little late to the party since I have just purchased my first pair, but this look is one that you all will see throughout the entire year. I can wear them with jeans, a dress, shorts, oversized tee, or any other combo I can think of. This item is one that I am absolutely in love with right now!

Bold Statement Earrings

If you know me I believe that earrings make a statement & these fringe earrings do just that. These earrings can change any outfit from being bland to super cute!

Oversized Cardigan

Luckily, in NC it doesn't get dreadfully cold so for the most part a long cardigan and a light jacket is sufficient.

I love this look because it takes a plain out to the next level. It doesn't require much effort while looking really nice.

Mixing The Seasons

As the seasons begin to change, I love the idea of mixing different seasonal items together. Short and long sleeves was a combo that I used to not care for, but now it's a look that I love. Mix the prints, the items and make it work.
